In my practice, I believe it is fundamental to be seen, to be heard, and to be validated on how we feel. I am here to hold space and to provide a compassionate and supportive environment, as you express and process all that you feel, all that has happened to you, and all that you are experiencing. Life holds many challenges; I am here to help you move from all the hurt to a place of healing.
I honour your courage and the brave steps it takes to be vulnerable in talking about your feelings and experiences. Together, we will work to help you learn the skills to help cope with and manage your emotions, to express them to yourself and with others. I provide supportive counselling, using an eclectic approach to therapy, including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Attachment, Mindfulness, Emotion Focused Therapy, and Trauma-Informed Therapy. I have extensive experience working with families in crisis, as well as individuals struggling with their mental health.
Working with others has always been my passion. I started my career journey as a support worker at Community Living Essex County in 2003. While working to support individuals with disabilities, I attended the University of Windsor and completed the Concurrent Education Program and obtained my undergraduate degree with a combined honours of psychology and family and social relations (BA.H) and education (B.Ed). As part of this program, I also attended St. Clair College and received a diploma in Early Childhood Education (ECE).
After graduating, I decided to take on an amazing adventure and moved to London, England to teach Elementary school for a year. This was one of the greatest opportunities of my life where I worked with many amazing children, travelled to see so many different countries, and where I discovered that I truly wanted to become a social worker. Upon my return home, I attended Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan and obtained my Masters of Social Work, with a specialization in CBT, in 2011. For the last 11 years, I have had the pleasure of working closely to provide support to individuals and families.
I am a mom to seven year old twins, two pugs, and a new pet axolotl, so I can appreciate how busy life can be! In my spare time, I love going on adventures, big and small, with my family and friends. I enjoy travelling, reading a good book, and engaging in my guilty pleasure of shopping. I love to laugh, try new things, and am always open to a new adventure or learning opportunity.
“There is no greater joy, nor greater reward, than to make a fundamental difference in someone’s life” - Mary Rose McGready.
